Introduction

I would like to introduce myself and welcome you to my website. My name is Allen Cantrell and I collect and propagate native azaleas. My nursery is located west of Chesnee on Highway 11 in the foothills of north western (Upstate) South Carolina. I am a mail order nursery open to the public by appointment only. With the launch of my website, you can now buy your azalea plants online. I started collecting native azaleas in the early 80’s. Many of the flowering shrubs in my azalea collection were grown from cuttings that other collectors gave me, while others came from sprigs and cuttings from the wild. I have traveled throughout the eastern United States searching for native azaleas and visiting other collectors. Since I have only been growing native azaleas to sell for the past few years, the nursery business is still relatively new to me. I still have a lot to learn. I hope you enjoy my web site and it becomes one of one your favorite sites to visit.

About My Collection
I have all the azalea species native to the eastern United States in a wide array of colors. I have been trying to grow R. occidentale. It is native to the west coast but it is a challenge keeping it going. It doesn’t like the east coast for some reason. I have a collection of Ghents, a few man made hybrids and some natural hybrids made by Mother Nature. In the collection there are some rare forms double, flowers with split petals, flowers no petals, miniature flowers. You can find some of these under the section “Rare Forms”. I also have R. japonicum from Japan, R. molle from China and R. luteum form Europe. You will not find all of the forms and colors on the website, but you will find many of them. I will try and add others in time. I do not mass produce any one plant.

About My Inventory
Buying your azalea plants online: Plants displayed in the catalog are currently in stock. Inventory levels are only shown for those plants with a low stock level (below 10). You will see some of the numbers are low this year already. I start selling plants when they are a healthy 6 inches tall. Some species grow faster than others so many will be larger.

Updates...
The plan is to update my web site in late August or early September, when I know for sure what I will have for fall and winter sales. For now I am rooting all of my plants except for a few seedlings. So when I run out of something I am out until the next fall… so if you see something you really like you may want to order early on the web to make sure you get what you want. If you order by mail the plant you want may be gone by the time the order gets to me, so you might want to buy your azalea plants online instead... just a suggestion.

Why Azaleas?
Azalea plants make beautiful flowering shrubs. They are found in numerous gardens and landscapes, and come in many sizes and colors. Flowering shrubs are a favorite of landscapers and gardeners since they provide cover, color, texture and presence to the garden. Bloom times vary among azalea varieties, providing for extended periods of enjoyment.
